FSSC 22000/ ISO 22000 implementation

FSSC 22000 / ISO 22000 implementation

Developed by the Food Safety Certification Foundation (SCV), FSSC 22000 is the first global standard for the entire food industry. The certificate is accepted by many parties in the food supply chain. The measures laid down for FSSC 22000 can also serve as a basis for BRC and IFS standards, among others.

FSSC 22000 is ISO 22000 supplemented by additional requirements and measures, previously known as the PAS guidelines. FSSC 22000, unlike ISO 22000, is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). Major players in the food sector, united in the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), request this certification from companies that supply them directly.

More than ISO 22000, FSSC 22000 sets clear requirements for the final product. Like ISO 22000, FSSC 22000 is based on the HACCP principles of the Codex Alimentarius, but supplemented by requirements that are stricter than current legislation and the existing ISO 22000 standard. Whereas ISO 22000 meets the (super-)legal requirements, for example traders and packaging suppliers, FSSC 22000 also meets the additional (market) standards for companies that produce food. Food producers that already have a food safety system can comply with the FSSC 22000 scheme through an additional audit.

FSSC 22000 applies to any type of organizations, regardless of size and complexity, which operates directly or indirectly within the supply chain of food and/or animal feed, both in the Netherlands and internationally, and which actually processes the product/food. Think of food producers, animal feed manufacturers, retailers and the food packaging industry.
